October 2018

October 2 - November 6 (Tuesdays, 11am-1pm Pacific, 6 sessions, 12 CEUs)

ONLINE WEBINAR. The Evidence-Based and Individualized Treatment of Depression.
Major depression is one of the most difficult challenges a person can confront, yet remarkably effective treatments have been identified. The challenge for the clinician is to take the lines of evidence-based treatment and create an integrated program tailored to the needs of the individual client. Where should you start, and which components are important? Behavioural activation? Lifestyle modification? Dietary management? Social life enhancement? Situational problem-solving? Cognitive restructuring? Emotional strength-building? Exploring the role of meaning?

In this six-session webinar, Dr Randy Paterson provides a rationale and strategy for integrating all of these approaches into a sequence tailored to the individual client. We travel step-by-step through the process, all the way from intake assessment to relapse prevention.

Along the way, participants are introduced to over 40 client handouts and exercise sheets designed to enhance therapy and support change, each provided in pdf format, ready to be printed as appropriate for use with your own clients.

By the end of this course, you will:

Have an organizing principle for your assessment.
Be able to present two related models for depression symptoms, causes, and treatment.
Be able to structure behavioural activation for maximum effect.
Be able to identify lifestyle factors for targeted treatment focus.
Know how to introduce cognitive therapy concepts with depressed clients.
Understand the role of depressogenic primary and secondary appraisals.
Be able to integrate meaning-focused work within standard CBT.
Have the basics for relapse prevention and planning.
Own a set of 40+ client handouts for use with your own clients
